A: This limited time offer is being extended at a time when many ACTRA members continue to be locked out from working on commercials by the Institute of Canadian Agencies (ICA) and the agencies and brands they represent. By joining ACTRA, Equity members have the opportunity to participate in an act of solidarity by refusing to work on non-union commercials – while also gaining access to work opportunities within ACTRA’s jurisdiction.
Equity members will receive the advantages of full unionized work when approached to appear in commercials. Having both ACTRA and Equity members working under the same commercial agreements will help to end the proliferation of non-union commercial productions, which is good news for all unionized performers.
A: Equity Members in Good standing will be eligible to join ACTRA as a Full Member during the period of June 3 to August 2, 2024.
A: All ACTRA Branches are participating in this initiative. When joining ACTRA, you must select the Branch that covers your primary place of residence. For example: if you reside in Saskatoon you would join ACTRA Saskatchewan; or, if you reside in Vancouver, you would join UBCP/ACTRA. For a complete list of ACTRA Branches, click HERE
A: Contact your local ACTRA Branch for an application form. To complete your application, you will require a copy of your current Equity member card, demonstrating that you are currently in good standing.
You can access your card through your Equity member profile HERE
If you require assistance, please contact info@caea.com
You will also need current proof of citizenship or permanent residency.
A: Yes - the incentive waives the initiation fee only. The dues period starts on March 1 each year, and dues are prorated by month. Those applying in June would pay $146; those applying in July would pay $130 and so on.
A: As a Full ACTRA Member, you will be responsible for paying basic annual membership dues of $195 plus working dues of 2.25% of gross earnings (up to a combined maximum of $4,000) each year.
A: ACTRA Members are prohibited from working on non-union productions that fall under ACTRA’s jurisdiction (film, television, radio, digital media, video games, audiobooks and commercials). You can read more about your responsibilities as an ACTRA Member in the By-Laws and Constitution or in the UBCP/ACTRA By-Laws depending on your jurisdiction.
Theatrical productions do not fall under ACTRA’s jurisdiction, and joining ACTRA will not impact your ability to work under Equity’s jurisdiction.
A: In this situation only, ACTRA will consider approving reasonable extensions on an individual, case-by-case basis. Please contact your local branch for more information.
