Special ceremony held at Canadian Consular Residence in Los Angeles
Toronto, ON (January 27, 2011) — ACTRA has honoured Canadian star Bruce Greenwood with an ACTRA Award of Excellence. ACTRA’s National President Ferne Downey presented the award at a special afternoon reception at the Residence of David Fransen, Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles.
“Today, Canadian actors honour Bruce Greenwood for his extraordinary creative contribution to our world of film and television,” says Ferne Downey, ACTRA’s National President. “He is a deeply gifted, soulful actor who commands our boundless respect.”
Bruce Greenwood is known to audiences around the world for his diverse film and television performances. From The Sweet Hereafter and Exotica to 13 Days and John From Cincinnati, his work is detailed and passionate. Over the years he has managed to divide his time and efforts between big-budget shows and independent film almost equally; from Star Trek to Mao’s Last Dancer the choices have been varied and challenging. His numerous acknowledgements include a Golden Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding portrayal of President John F. Kennedy in Thirteen Days. He appears on screens now in Barney’s Version, based on Mordecai Richler’s prize-winning comic novel. Bruce and his wife Susan divide their time between homes in Vancouver and Los Angeles.
The ACTRA National Award of Excellence recognizes a member’s career achievements and contribution to fellow performers and the Canadian industry. Previous recipients include Eugene Levy, Sandra Oh, Kiefer Sutherland, Tonya Lee Williams, Lloyd Bochner and Leslie Nielsen.
ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the national organization of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada.
